fossilized coral colony cabochon gemstones

Type: Fossilized Coral

Enhancement: None - 100% natural

Origin: Indonesia

Price: $10-$50 per stone

From the mystical tropics of Indonesia, Fossilized Coral patterns resemble tiny fireworks, flowers or abstract art. Your imagination can go wild with these little treasures. After ancient Coral beds died off millions and millions of years ago, the fossilized remains have been individually and skillfully crafted into a variety of freeform shapes. Fossilized Coral cabs make great wire wrap projects or can be collected for their unique appearance. Matched pairs and suites available. (Return to Top)

Ammonites appeared during the Carboniferous period a mere 290 to 354 million years ago. Evolving during the Mesozoic era into specimens sometimes weighing more than 200 lbs., they became very widespread until dying out about the same time as the dinosaurs. Today the best Ammonites are found on the banks of the Volga River near the Russian city of Ulyanovsk (formerly Simbirsk and the birthplace of Lenin). These stunning cabochons are the result of Pyrite replacing the original bone structure of the Ammonite. There are various shades of brown, beige, black, tan and white. Throughout many of the pieces are swirls and pockets of Pyrite drusy. (Return to Top)

Red Horn Coral formed over 400 million years ago during the Silurian Age. This is another gemstone found in only one location the world. Since the area is now off limits to collecting and mining is banned, these cabs were cut from an old stock. The red colors and patterns are very distinct. Eyes, abstract scenes, and patterns burst from each gemstone center. (Return to Top)
