Parrot in Brazil

Bright Star Gemstones owes it's roots to several exotic lands.

In Brazil, the state of Minas Gerais (pronounced Me-nas Ger-rice) is appropriately named: the English translation is General Mines. Mining, gemstones and minerals are a way of life for many families. From one generation to the next the next, year after year, the knowledge becomes a family tradition.

Mineros (miners) pass the rough to the lapidarios (lapidary) shops for cutting, faceting and polishing. The lapideros then pass the gemstones to local dealers. In some towns, sellers cry out Iolita!, Esmerelda!, Rutilo!, Berylio! from every street corner just is if they're calling out for their children.

The selection and variety can be mind boggling. The prices at times are doido (crazy) when you are a gringo. Fakes and scams are everywhere: Glass passed as Tourmalina. Citrina is sold as Imperial Topaze. Cheap Japanese synthetic is supposedly Morganita.

By working directly with the lapideros and in some cases the family that actually owns the mine, Bright Star Gemstones can assure you the best selection, prices and quality. Each and every gemstone is hand picked and guaranteed for your satisfaction. No games. No lab created stones. No mass-produced, look-alike junk. Just precious and semi-precious gemstones.

Over time, it became almost natural to expand the contacts in the mining community and the results have not been disappointing with many exciting finds! From Russia (with love) comes the unique cabochons of Astrophyllite, Eudialyte and Pyrite Ammonite. A new discovery of Spessartite Garnets from China have been left in the natural condition for either jewelers or mineral collectors. Mystical Africa has yielded the splendidly colored Pietersite. While closer to home, Garnets from Alaska and cute little Pyrite cubes in Schist are guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind hits.

The families we work with have been in business for two and sometimes three generations. With a network of family members stretched out all over Brazil, South America and now Asia, Africa and North America, Bright Star Gemstones can guarantee you - the buyer - with the best quality gemstones from around the world at the fairest prices.

Obrigado!
